2. Eligibility

• Participation is open exclusively to paying customers of any SpeedyGerman course (A1, A2, B1 or the Bundle). Participation requires purchase. This is not random; winners are determined solely by exam results.

• The Goethe or Telc exam must be taken after the date of course purchase and at least fourteen (14) calendar days later.

• For the yearly prize, only official certificates for exams submitted between 1 January and 31 December of each year at levels A1, A2, B1 or B2 are accepted.

• Participants must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. Participants aged sixteen (16) or seventeen (17) may enter only with written parental or guardian consent provided on request.

• One submission per person per award year. If a participant completes multiple exams in the same year, the participant should submit only the single certificate they want to be considered.

• German must not be the participant’s first language, and the participant must not have grown up in a household or country where German was the primary language of daily communication before the age of 16.

• Employees, contractors, interns, shareholders and immediate family members of the Organizer are not eligible.

• Participants must have completed at least 50 percent of the SpeedyGerman course they purchased, as verified by the Organizer’s course progress tracking system, before submitting their certificate. Course completion is measured by the progress percentage shown inside the course platform for the purchased course. If progress tracking is technically unavailable or clearly incorrect, the Organizer may request reasonable alternative proof of completion.

• If the purchase is refunded, reversed, charged back, or not fully paid at the time of winner selection, eligibility ends immediately and the entry is void.

3. How to Enter

• Upload your official Goethe or Telc certificate directly in the designated section of the SpeedyGerman course player.

• Accepted formats are PDF or image files.

• When uploading, you must confirm that: (a) your full name on the certificate matches your account name, (b) your country of residence, (c) your exam date, (d) your course purchase date, and (e) the course you enrolled in.

• The Organizer may request that the participant updates their account name to match the certificate name for verification purposes.

4. Entry Deadline

• Complete submissions must be received no later than 23:59 Central European Time on 31 December of each year.

• Certificates uploaded after this date are not lost. They will automatically be considered for the following year’s Award, provided all other eligibility requirements remain fulfilled.

• Late, incomplete, corrupt, or unreadable entries will not be considered for the current year.

5. Winner Selection

The ten eligible participants with the highest exam scores will be declared winners.

Selection is based only on objective exam results. No random selection takes place.

Exam score definition and comparability

a) Score used. The Organizer uses the overall result shown on the official certificate. If the certificate shows an overall percentage, that percentage is used. If the certificate shows points, levels, or module based scores without an overall percentage, the Organizer converts the result into a single percentage score as described below.

Scoring comparability. If providers or levels use different scales, scores are converted to a single percentage scale using the providers’ official documentation. The conversion method applies uniformly to all entries and will be published on the Award page.

b) Module based certificates. If only module scores are shown, the Organizer converts module results into a single percentage using the provider’s official rules. If the provider does not define an official aggregation method for the shown output format, the entry is not eligible.

Tie breakers apply in this order.

Higher German level exam ranks higher.
Earlier exam date ranks higher.
If the date is the same, earlier course enrollment ranks higher.
If still tied, earlier certificate upload ranks higher.

Winners will be notified by email on or before 10 January of every year.

A winner must confirm acceptance and provide valid payment details within fourteen (14) calendar days of notification. Failure to respond results in forfeiture and the prize will be offered to the next highest ranked participant.

If you exercise a statutory withdrawal of your course purchase, your eligibility ends immediately.

Review window. If a participant believes their score conversion or ranking is incorrect, the participant may request a review within seven (7) calendar days after winner notification. The Organizer will review the calculation once and communicate the result.

6. Verification and Fraud Prevention

• The Organizer may request proof of identity and the original certificate and may contact the examination centre to confirm authenticity.

• The Organizer may request evidence of course purchase and purchase date.

• Submissions that the Organizer reasonably believes to be fraudulent, altered or in breach of these Terms will be rejected and the participant may be permanently excluded from future promotions.

• Any submission containing a forged, falsified or otherwise fraudulent certificate will be reported to the relevant examination authority and law enforcement. Such actions may result in legal consequences, including civil or criminal proceedings, in accordance with applicable laws.

• Eligibility verification for “non native background” requirement. If the Organizer has reasonable grounds to believe that the eligibility requirement in Section 2 regarding German background may not be met, the Organizer may request additional reasonable evidence within fourteen (14) calendar days. If the participant does not provide the requested evidence within that period, the participant may be disqualified. The Organizer will document the reason for the request and the decision on request.

7. Prize

• The prizes are awarded as follows: 1st place – 1000€, 2nd place – 500€, 3rd place – 300€, 4th place – 200€, and 5th to 10th place – 100€ each.

• Each winner will receive their prize in euro (€) via PayPal, Wise, or international bank transfer, according to their choice and availability.

• The Organizer will cover sending fees charged by the chosen payment provider. Any receiving fees, intermediary bank fees, currency conversion fees, or local charges on the winner’s side are the responsibility of the winner.

• The prize is paid gross. All taxes, duties, or reporting obligations in the winner's jurisdiction remain the sole responsibility of the winner.

• The prize is personal to the winner and cannot be transferred, exchanged, or substituted.

Prize amounts apply to the current award year only. The Organizer may adjust prize amounts for future years, which will be announced before the respective entry period.

If a winner cannot legally receive the prize in their jurisdiction or through available payment methods, the Organizer may require an alternative lawful payment method. If no lawful payment method is available, the prize is forfeited and offered to the next highest ranked participant.

8. Taxes

• The Organizer will not withhold or pay taxes on behalf of any winner. Each winner must comply with local tax regulations and file or report the prize as required.

9. Publicity Consent

• Winners may voluntarily grant consent to the Organizer to use their name, likeness and testimonial for marketing purposes without additional compensation.

• Consent for publicity is entirely optional and may be withdrawn at any time. Withdrawal does not affect eligibility for the prize.

10. Data Protection

Legal bases
• Article 6 1 b GDPR to administer participation, verify eligibility, and deliver prizes.
• Article 6 1 f GDPR for identity checks, anti-fraud, and authenticity verification with examination centers. Our legitimate interests are contest integrity and prevention of abuse.
• Article 6 1 a GDPR for any optional publicity use of name, likeness, and testimonial.

Anti fraud relies on Article 6 1 f GDPR. See Recital 47 on fraud prevention as a legitimate interest.

Storage and deletion. Certificates, identification copies, and verification materials are stored securely and deleted within ninety (90) days after the end of the review window described in Section 5, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

Separate retention for accounting and payment records. Payment confirmation, payout records, and bookkeeping documents are retained for the legally required statutory retention periods.

Rights. You may exercise your GDPR rights by contacting [email protected]. A request for erasure before winners are announced constitutes withdrawal from the Award. Withdrawal of publicity consent is possible at any time and does not affect prior lawful processing.

Effect of course withdrawal. If you exercise a statutory withdrawal of the course purchase, we will cease processing for the Award and your participation ends.

11. Exclusion of Liability

• Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury arising from negligence or for wilful misconduct or fraud.

• Subject to the above, the Organizer is not liable for any loss or damage of whatever nature arising from participation in the Award or from a prize, except for loss caused by gross negligence or intent of the Organizer.

12. Right to Modify or Cancel

• The Organizer may cancel, suspend, or amend the Award aus wichtigem Grund (for important reason) only. Important reasons include force majeure, legal or regulatory changes, or manipulation attempts that endanger contest integrity. Changes will not reduce already accrued claims. After winners are announced, cancellation for that award year is excluded.

• The Award is conducted on a yearly basis. The Organizer reserves the right to discontinue the Award in future years. Such a decision does not affect the current award year once launched.

If changes are made during an active award year, the Organizer will publish the updated Terms with a clear effective date. Entries already submitted remain governed by the version in force at the time of submission, unless the change is required by law or clearly benefits participants.

13. Legal Recourse

Der Rechtsweg ist ausgeschlossen, soweit er die Durchführung der Gewinnerermittlung betrifft. Gesetzliche Ansprüche bleiben unberührt.

Participants cannot challenge the conduct of winner selection in court or through other legal proceedings. This clause does not limit statutory rights, including data protection rights and mandatory consumer rights.

14. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

German law applies. Mandatory consumer protection law at the consumer’s habitual residence remains unaffected in accordance with Article 6 Rome I.

For participants who are not consumers within §13 BGB, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Munich. Jurisdiction agreements otherwise follow §38 ZPO.

For consumers, mandatory jurisdiction rules apply. Within the EU and Lugano States, Articles 17 to 19 of Regulation 1215/2012 and the Lugano Convention apply. Consumers may sue in their domicile and may only be sued there. Any exclusive jurisdiction agreement against a consumer is valid only if concluded after a dispute arises or if it gives the consumer additional options. For domestic German consumers, §29c ZPO applies. Any contrary exclusive jurisdiction clause is ineffective. These rules apply only to the extent the respective instrument is applicable.

15. Miscellaneous

• If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.

• Headings are for convenience only and do not affect interpretation.
